Exceptional Situation: Arthur Davtyan on Gevorg Kostanyan

Exceptional situation. Today, on November 29, the Chief Prosecutor Arthur Davtyan described the announced search for former National Assembly member and former chief prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan in an interview with journalists.

When asked whether there is hope that Kostanyan, who is in Russia, will be arrested, Davtyan said: "Our job is not to hope or not to hope. There are procedures established; it is our duty to ensure that procedure, to present the necessary documents. You know, every country independently makes decisions in such situations, although this sovereignty is not unlimited, as conventions have specific and categorical regulations, and solutions must be found for these issues in every similar case."

When asked if he had contacted Kostanyan, the chief prosecutor replied, "Honestly, no, personally. I think the investigator has established contact; it is an exceptional situation, there have been many public communications, you are all aware of that."

Earlier, it was reported that a search had been announced for Gevorg Kostanyan. The Special Investigative Service has announced that a motion has been submitted to the court to arrest him. It is recalled that in September, Gevorg Kostanyan was summoned for questioning in the 'March 1' case, but the Investigative Committee reported that Kostanyan was abroad and would return in 15-20 days. He is involved as a defendant in the 'March 1' case.
