Citizens Who Pay 10 Million Dram and Serve One Month to Receive Military Booklet: Haik Sargsyan
Haik Sargsyan, a member of the My Step faction in the National Assembly of Armenia, has proposed a draft law regarding expedited military service to ensure that citizens avoiding service do not shy away from returning to Armenia.
"I suggest that our citizens return to the homeland before they reach the age of 27, pay 10 million dram, and serve through an expedited process," said Sargsyan.
When asked by journalists whether he believes that his proposal to undergo expedited military service by paying 10 million dram primarily benefits the wealthy, as they can pay the money and free their sons from military duty, Sargsyan acknowledged that this question has intrigued many.
"I imagined the nature of the comments on my draft law before introducing it, and I even knew what font those comments would be written in and who would write them," he said.
In response to a question about whether citizens who serve for one month would also receive a military booklet, Sargsyan confirmed, "Yes, they should receive it."
