‘Zhamanak’. Armenian Capital in Lebanon at Risk: $3-5 Billion in Banks

‘Zhamanak’ newspaper reports: LHK party leader Edmond Marukyan has appealed to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to support the "hundreds of thousands of Lebanese Armenians" and implement programs for their acceptance in Armenia and provide assistance.

According to our source from Lebanon, there are no longer hundreds of thousands of Lebanese Armenians, and their number is at best around 45-50 thousand. Lebanese Armenians, under no circumstances, want to come to Armenia, and the only issue that concerns them today is the restoration of stability in their country's banking system.

The Lebanese banking system is on the brink of default, the Lebanese currency, the pound, is continuously depreciating, and banks are refusing to return people's deposits. Various estimates indicate that there is $3-5 billion of Armenian-origin capital in Lebanese banks.
