Elder Son of 'Chvchv Aro' Acquitted
On November 26, in the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan, presided over by Gagik Poghosyan, a judgment was announced in the case of Serj Vardanyan, the son of Ara Vardanyan, known as 'Chvchv Aro'. Serj Vardanyan was acquitted.
Speaking with NEWS.am, Serj Vardanyan's lawyer, Manvel Grigoryan, stated that such a verdict was expected for them, as there were no substantial arguments during the trial to classify the actions as hooliganism.
"I had specifically requested during the disputes that he be acquitted. They had objectively done nothing that could be characterized as hooliganism. The court conducted a multi-faceted examination, checked all possible arguments, reviewed all episodes of the case, and even appointed additional expert examinations. As a result of the examination, everyone was convinced that nothing had been done by these kids,” said the lawyer.
According to the indictment, on September 12, 2017, Serj Vardanyan allegedly stole a gold chain worth 148,000 AMD by pulling it from Karen Gasparyan's neck inside an 'Opel Astra' vehicle parked on Hrayr Kochar street in Yerevan.
Additionally, on November 26, 2017, Serj Vardanyan and two of his friends grossly violated public order in one of the private rooms of the 'Afrikanyan' restaurant complex, displayed blatant disrespect towards customers and employees present at the restaurant, cursed, quarreled with a waiter who had made a remark, and then resorted to violence against him.
It is noteworthy that Serj Vardanyan's older brother, Sargis Vardanyan, is currently in custody as well. He is accused of violating road traffic rules and leaving the scene of a traffic accident. The accident occurred on January 8, 2018, resulting in the deaths of two traffic police officers on duty. This case is also currently being heard by the court.
