74% of Unemployed Are Women, Says Zaruhi Batoyan

The phrase "There are no jobs" is not as relevant today. At the Yerevan Expo Center, over 1,000 vacant job positions were presented. A job fair was organized in the capital, aiming to facilitate direct communication between employers and job seekers. This way, the unemployed can have the opportunity for stable employment, while employers can fill their existing vacancies.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Employment State Agency of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia. The program is part of the annual state employment initiative being implemented in Yerevan. Today, young people, middle-aged persons, and seniors had the opportunity to explore on-site and find suitable jobs for themselves.

About 70 employers from various sectors of the economy participated in the fair, presenting their available job vacancies. Participants were able to familiarize themselves with the offers, necessary requirements, and, if interested, register by leaving their resumes for employers to contact them later. Representatives from some organizations were able to conduct interviews on-site to replenish their ranks.

“We still have much to do regarding job opportunities, conditions, and generally creating workplaces, but we must do it step by step,” stated Zaruhi Batoyan, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, as she welcomed job seekers and employers participating in the fair. The Minister visited several booths and learned about the job opportunities offered by the organizations. She noted that she was impressed with what she had seen as she approached a few more booths.

“It is no surprise that employment and job opportunities are serious issues in Armenia today, but it is also no surprise that work is the only means of living with dignity, developing, expressing oneself, and creating new opportunities,” Batoyan mentioned during the event, adding that today she wants to encourage particularly young people, disabled individuals, women, and middle-aged persons.

“If you believe in your abilities, if you trust your knowledge and skills, then overcoming difficulties will be much easier,” Batoyan emphasized, adding that her ministry is always by the people's side and does everything possible to increase employment opportunities, but they need the support of the people.

However, the Minister expressed her concern that the number of unemployed women accounts for 73.3% of the unemployed population, or 5,900 people. According to her, work needs to be done in this direction.
