VIDEO: Footage Released of the Dresden Museum Heist

Footage of the heist at the Dresden Green Vault Museum has surfaced online. As reported, around €1 billion worth of approximately 100 pieces of jewelry, mostly from the 18th century, were stolen from the museum on Monday.

The video shows several individuals moving around in the dark with flashlights and struggling to break the shatterproof glass of display cases. Before breaking in, the thieves set fire to an underground electrical panel, disabling the security system. After that, they entered the power-deprived museum, which was formerly the treasury of the Wettin dynasty.

This museum housed jewelry from the Renaissance to the Classical period. The crime has already been dubbed the heist of the century.
