Mayor Comments on Denial of Construction Permit in Park Area for Daughter of Former MP Tzaghik Rubo

The Mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, addressed the issue of the refusal to grant a construction permit for a building in the former "Daisy" park area, which is associated with the daughter of the former Prosperous Armenia Party MP, Ruben Gevorgyan, also known as "Tzaghik Rubo." They claim that the park has never been public land, and it belongs to them. Now, they assert that the city hall is obstructing the attraction of external investments and the execution of construction.

Hayk Marutyan stated that there is a park in the capital that has been transformed into a pit and is registered under the name of a former official’s daughter. "People come and say, 'This is my land, I want to build here.' I look at everyone and when I see something suspicious, there is a Google Earth application that allows you to look back in time. You go back and see a large park that has turned into a pit," he noted, adding that this area had been designated as a park in the main layout, but for inexplicable reasons, it has been alienated.

The city hall holds doubts regarding the legality of the land's privatization and has forwarded the documents to law enforcement authorities. "That specified area used to be a park, and the position of that huge park has now become a large pit. Naturally, these types of issues—regardless of the individuals involved—are not interesting to me; it is the phenomenon itself that concerns me. I cannot allow construction in a place where there once was a park. Subsequently, for inexplicable reasons, that park has become someone’s property—not an ordinary person, but a relative of a public official, in this case, a daughter. Such cases are sent by me to law enforcement to determine if there are any legal violations. If law enforcement tells me, 'Mr. Mayor, there are no issues here,' then we will move forward," Marutyan concluded.
