Italians Emphasize the Independence of Courts and Judges
A delegation from the High Judicial Council of the Republic of Italy, currently in Armenia, met today at the Presidential Residence with representatives of Armenia's judicial system at the invitation of President Armen Sarkissian. This information was reported by the press service of the President of Armenia.
David Ermini, the Vice President of Italy's High Judicial Council leading the delegation, highlighted the importance of presenting Italy's experience in the judicial system in Armenia, given that both countries are parliamentary democracies where the judiciary is one of the pillars of the state in a democratic system. He noted that collaboration between the two countries in this area could positively influence the effectiveness of measures aimed at improving the judicial system.
During the meeting entitled “The Role of the Judicial Council in Parliamentary Democracy and its Relations with Other Constitutional Bodies,” members of the Italian High Judicial Council delegation presented reports on the functioning of the judicial system in their country, as well as the role and importance of high judicial councils in a democratic system. Particular emphasis was placed on the independence of courts and judges and the role of the high judicial council in this regard.
The reports from the members of the Italian High Judicial Council were followed by a Q&A session with the attendees.
