Shooting Incident Near Iran-Azerbaijan Border in Southeastern Artsakh Leaves One Dead
A shooting incident occurred at night involving the Azerbaijani border guard forces near the village of Boyuk Bahmanli, close to the borders of Artsakh, Iran, and Azerbaijan. According to reports from shantnews.am, the border guards attempted to intercept smugglers crossing from Iran into Azerbaijan near Horadiz.
Two Iranians allegedly tried to smuggle drugs into Azerbaijani territory. They successfully crossed the border but were spotted by Azerbaijani border guards, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
During this exchange, one of the Iranians was killed, while the other managed to escape back to Iran. According to the Azerbaijani border guard service, the Iranians left behind 2.6 kilograms of marijuana and methamphetamine at the scene.
The Iranian side has confirmed that the deceased was a citizen of Iran.
