Marukyan: Vanetsyan Worked for Years in NSS, If There Were Concerns, Actions Should Have Been Taken
Mr. Vanetsyan has worked for many years in the National Security Service (NSS). The Open Society Foundations has been operating in Armenia for many years, since the time when Mr. Vanetsyan was the head of the NSS in the Erebuni community, when he was the deputy head in the Central community, and when he was the director of the NSS. Therefore, if there were such concerns, he should have taken certain actions.
This was stated by Edmon Marukyan, the head of the “Bright Armenia” parliamentary faction, during a press conference held in the National Assembly, addressing the former NSS director Arthur Vanetsyan's claim that the Soros office poses a threat to the national security of the Republic of Armenia.
As Marukyan noted, Armenia is currently a country where there are no appointed officials in three key positions. There is no head of the Anti-Corruption Committee, no director of the NSS, and no chief of police. According to him, there are now provisional officials who still do not know whether they will remain in their positions or not.
“This is uncertainty, and any uncertainty is bad. In this atmosphere of uncertainty, I don’t believe anyone will be occupied with Vanetsyan,” said Marukyan. In his opinion, attempts are being made to draw attention with various statements and filling the agenda of Armenia with topics unrelated to the country's development.
Summing up this issue, Marukyan stated that he sees no threat in Vanetsyan's words and does not take those statements seriously.
