Cremation is Incompatible with Our Tradition: Father Yesayi Kahana Artyunyan
Cremation is incompatible with our tradition. We believe that the people will maintain their traditions and that this law will hardly be fully implemented. This was stated by Father Yesayi Kahana Artyunyan, a resident priest of St. Sargis Church of the Ararat Patriarchal Diocese, in an interview with Tert.am regarding the construction of two crematoriums in Armenia in 2020.
"It was assumed that if the law was adopted, then eventually crematoriums should also be built. The Church has its position regarding cremation: it is not compatible with our tradition. But since the law has been adopted, it is natural that crematoriums must eventually be built. We believe that the people will maintain their traditions and that this law will hardly be fully implemented, precisely because the people have their traditions and will uphold them," said Father Yesayi Kahana Artyunyan.
It is noteworthy that on November 25, the director of the 'Special Population Services' state non-commercial organization, Arman Iskandaryan, announced that two crematoriums will be opened in Armenia in 2020.
