Ararat Mirzoyan Comments on the Film 'Mel'

When discussing art, we can like or dislike different things, understand or misunderstand them. This was stated by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan, during a conversation with reporters when they asked him to comment on the film 'Mel'. The NA Speaker noted that he cannot boast that he fully understands or appreciates Sergei Parajanov's film 'The Color of Pomegranates'.

"I want to confess a big sin, if that is a sin. I cannot claim that I fully understand or appreciate, for example, Parajanov’s 'The Color of Pomegranates'. I understand many more examples of applied art. I know that this is a great sin, but I am not sure that I can fully explain to any uninformed person what this is about or what Parajanov wanted to convey in this or that episode. This does not hinder sharing the opinion of others that this is a magnificent manifestation of high art and an excellent piece of art that is a significant contribution to global art," he said, adding that he doesn't make comparisons but simply creates grotesque art.

Specifically regarding the film 'Mel', Ararat Mirzoyan said that films are created about different things. "This is the world of cinema; I don’t have a comment here. I can only say that all kinds of films can exist," he remarked. According to him, 20 million drams can also be allocated so that people have the opportunity to disconnect from their daily routine and take a glance at this issue.

As for whether there are conservatives among them, Ararat Mirzoyan noted: "If you mean that there are more conservative-minded people among us, then there are such people everywhere – among us, even in my family. But who said that I am not conservative?"
