VIDEO: I Did Not Know That Melin Has Such a Past, I Have Awarded Him - Vardan Ghukasyan Expresses Discontent

Vardan Ghukasyan, a member of the Armenian parliament’s Prosperous Armenia faction, addressed the rejected legislative initiative to ban adoptions by same-sex couples during an interview with journalists today.

"I don’t understand that ‘latent’ aspect. I know that a person should have a family, should have children, not keep cats, girls shouldn’t love girls, and boys shouldn’t love boys. I don’t even want to comment on that, look at me, and look at them," he said.

Ghukasyan promised to share a separate anecdote on this subject with the young men later: "Today Europe is collapsing because they are not having children. The nation will disappear; why are you bringing those hooligans and throwing them at us?" he questioned.

The MP also referred to the recent discussions surrounding the creation of the film "Mel" and the fact that the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport allocated 20 million drams for it. "We have Olympic champions, we have people with better character; this doesn’t mean that if someone has been a champion in Europe, their bad, disgraceful lifestyle, which probably didn’t exist in Gyumri, is a reason to leave and come here, and for that, to give 20 million drams?" he said.

He noted that films should be made about Andranik the Leader, Vardan Mamigonian, and our saints. "Who are you giving money to?" he asked.

Ghukasyan also commented on the image of King Pap: "King Pap was a glorified person; such a character should be removed from the nation. You take this figure as an exemplary character, leaving behind Abgar the King, Tigran the Great, Ashot the Pious, and you fall behind that devilish figure," the MP stated.

"I didn’t know Melin had such a past; I have honored him and received gifts from him, but I was not aware he had such desires," he concluded.
