VIDEO: "You Have No Right to Speak Like This in This Parliament" – Gayane Abrahamyan to Tigran Urikhanyan

“You may have had the right to speak like this in previous parliaments, but I assure you, you have no such right in this parliament, with this tone, this vocabulary, and this permanent manner of speaking,” stated Gayane Abrahamyan, a member of the "My Step" faction, during a parliamentary session on November 12, addressing the speech of Prosperous Armenia Party member Tigran Urikhanyan.

“I believe you have not earned this right and could not have earned it in any way, because at least this parliament received a 70 percent confidence vote in elections that were in no way disputed. I believe it is time to put an end to these populist statements,” emphasized Abrahamyan.

In turn, fellow My Step faction member Hovhannes Hovhannisyan said, “I agree that we need to put an end to the pathos; these emotionally charged statements are no longer appropriate in this hall. Let me remind you who is raising pensions, teachers' salaries, and the salaries of emergency workers, which had not been increased for years. No one from this government or authority cares more about our people and their concerns than we do. We must remember that in the past, when the government was mired in corruption, no one mentioned salary and pension increases.”

Earlier it was reported that Tigran Urikhanyan had introduced a bill on increasing pensions, stating, “If the Prime Minister declares that budget revenues are increasing, that there is money but no known spending direction, if the country’s situation is improving, then where should those resources be directed if not toward increasing pensions for retirees?” He added that the government had given a negative conclusion on the bill, justifying that it would be difficult to calculate.

“In today’s reality, there is nothing that is not recorded and documented, especially in the electronic and digital world, and that calculation should have been easy for the last 1.5 years. If a citizen of Armenia does not receive what the government served on a platter because they took to the streets 1.5 years ago, seeking to change the quality of their lives, you will break the spirit of 800,000 impoverished people who burned in the streets 1.5 years ago,” stated Urikhanyan.

When the Speaker of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan responded that “Mr. Urikhanyan, is that your personal observation that power was served to us on a platter?”, Tigran Urikhanyan replied, “Those who threaten various body parts of known individuals with different body parts, even they could not comment on my pathos. I ask you to maintain decorum. Regarding pensions, yes, we must strive to calculate.” He added, “Mr. Mirzoyan, yes, the people presented you with power.”
