168 Hours: The Internal Rivalry Between Mirzoyan and Simonian Takes Comical Turns

According to the "168 Hours" newspaper, during a recent meeting of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly held in Yerevan, events unfolded regarding Armenian-Russian parliamentary relations that did not escape the attention of those present, including certain international delegations.

It was evident that the Armenian side, led by National Assembly President Ararat Mirzoyan, was doing everything possible to ingratiate itself to Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, which sometimes resulted in comical manifestations.

It is well-known that there have been no official visits between the chairpersons of the two countries' parliaments until now, only ordinary bilateral meetings during multilateral events. But it has already been a year, and the National Assembly, operating in the format of the State Duma, has not had an official bilateral visit.

At the meeting held in Yerevan, the internal competition between National Assembly President Ararat Mirzoyan and Deputy Speaker Alen Simonyan, who also heads the Armenia-Russia Friendship Interparliamentary Commission, was also noticeable. It was clear that Alen Simonyan's proficiency in Russian was at a better level, and he was more flexible in communication, which sparked jealousy in Ararat Mirzoyan.
