Senior Inspector Arrested in Bribery Case Released, While Inspector Remains in Custody
A senior inspector from the community police division of the Erebuni department of the police has been charged under Article 311, Part 3, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia for receiving a bribe by a group of individuals with prior agreement.
In response to an inquiry from Armtimes.com, Marina Ohanyan, spokesperson for the Special Investigative Service, stated that the inspector is under detention, while the senior inspector has been released on a signed commitment not to leave.
Earlier, the police reported that evidence had been gathered regarding a citizen's complaint, which led to the senior inspector and one of the inspectors from the same division negotiating with the investigator to demand $200 as a bribe from the citizen to resolve the matter in their favor. After negotiations, they agreed on a sum of 50,000 dram.
According to the Police Information and Public Relations Department of the Republic of Armenia, the inspector was apprehended immediately after receiving the demanded 50,000 dram on Freedom Square on November 4. During a personal search, the subject of the bribe, 50,000 dram, was discovered. A criminal case was initiated, and both the senior inspector and the inspector were arrested.
