Delegation Led by the President of Artsakh Visits the Flemish Parliament

The delegation led by the President of Artsakh has been hosted at the Flemish Parliament. The visit was initiated by members of the friendship group of Dutch-speaking legislators from Belgium, alongside the Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s (ARF) European Armenian Congressional Committee.

Attending the meeting were eight members of the Flemish Parliament, including Belgian senators, as well as ARF Bureau representative Yakob Ter-Khachaturian, the president of the European Armenian Congressional Committee Gaspar Karapetian, and executive director Heghine Evinyan.

Among other topics, the participants discussed the potential for decentralized cooperation between Artsakh and Flanders, particularly in agriculture, education, and culture. The President of Artsakh presented the international relations established by Artsakh in recent years, as well as the current security situation in the region.

One of the key discussion points was the geopolitical isolation of Artsakh, imposed by the authorities of Azerbaijan, particularly the impossibility of operating the Stepanakert airport. Despite Artsakh officials declaring their intent to operate the airport solely for civilian purposes, the Azerbaijani government has threatened to shoot down any aircraft attempting to take off or land in Stepanakert.
