Gevorg Petrosyan Joined the Protest Against the Istanbul Convention

A protest against the Istanbul Convention is currently taking place in front of the National Assembly. The action is organized by the Armenian Values 'Will' public initiative, which has also started a petition to ban the convention.

Recently, GEVOR PETROSYAN, a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party, joined the protesters and the petition. He stated to reporters, "This contradicts the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia and our value system." He noted that there is legislation in Armenia punishing domestic violence, and it is unacceptable to introduce such laws under its guise.

"The aim of this is not to prevent violence, but rather to introduce different morals into Armenia under this name, which the Prosperous Armenia Party opposes," Petrosyan said, expressing hope that his fellow party members would also support the initiative.

When asked if he is aware of the position of the party leader Gagik Tsarukyan on this matter, Petrosyan responded, "Mr. Tsarukyan has expressed his opposition to the Istanbul Convention because he also believes that there is an attempt to introduce values that do not align with our traditional perceptions and values. How could Tsarukyan support this convention?" Earlier, media sources reported that the convention would be included in the agenda of the National Assembly in the spring. Today, the matter will also be discussed at a joint session of the permanent committees on state-legal issues, foreign relations, and human rights protection and public issues, attended by representatives of the Council of Europe's Human Rights Office.
