Number of Scholarship Recipients to Increase by 900
In Armenia, it is planned that the allocations for higher and postgraduate professional education programs will increase by more than 263 million AMD next year. Furthermore, the number of students receiving scholarships is expected to rise by 900 by 2020. This was stated today by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arayik Harutyunyan during the preliminary discussions of the 2020 state budget draft in the National Assembly's permanent commissions.
“The draft state budget of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport for 2020 includes 21 programs and 176 activities, for which the allocations amount to 179 billion 459 million AMD, compared to 158 billion 886 million AMD in 2019. The ministry's expenditures directed from the state budget will increase by 20 billion 572 million AMD in 2020 compared to 2019, which is 12.9 percent. In particular, allocations for higher and postgraduate professional education programs will increase by 263 million AMD or 2.5 percent, including a rise of 900 in the number of scholarship recipients,” said Harutyunyan, adding that the number of students receiving loans under a special loan program for educational loans will increase by approximately 1500.
