I Regret That Emotions and Passions Prevailed: Zohrabyan on Pouring Water on the Investigator

Member of the 'Prosperous Armenia' faction, Naira Zohrabyan, stated on her Facebook page: 'I regret that emotions and passions prevailed, and the discussion did not bring us closer to justice.'

She noted that a very important discussion was scheduled today in the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs regarding the violations of rights raised by the parents of servicemen who died during non-combat operations in the Armed Forces of Armenia. Present at the meeting were grieving mothers in black and representatives from the Investigative Committee, the Military Prosecutor's Office, and the Ministry of Defense.

'For years, the parents have insisted that the classification of their sons' deaths as 'suicides' is a false and unjust outcome of the investigation, and they demand the reopening of the cases. The investigators present at the meeting were ready to provide clarifications on all the cases and began to present the preliminary investigative materials, which did not satisfy all the parents who lost their sons. Consequently, unfortunately, tempers flared, and continuing the meeting in such an atmosphere became impossible.'

'The committee decided to adjourn the meeting, and now we will attempt, together with the parents, to find a more effective format for continuing the discussions on this painful issue and restoring justice. A grieving parent should have no doubt regarding the investigation of the case, period. I want to be confident that the next discussions will take place in a calmer atmosphere because we should not dig hostile trenches within ourselves, and a parent who lost a soldier should not consider the investigator their number one enemy. This way, we will not get anywhere. We need to listen to and respect each other. I regret the unpleasant incident that occurred today,' Naira Zohrabyan wrote.
