Artsakh National Assembly Rejects Constitutional Amendments Proposal
The Artsakh National Assembly has recently voted against a proposal for constitutional amendments that would have made residency in Artsakh a non-mandatory requirement for presidential candidates.
According to Artsakh National Assembly member Hayk Khanooyan, "The National Assembly rejected the constitutional amendments proposal with a vote of 24 against and 4 in favor." He added that a video detailing his position will be released soon.
It should be noted that the live broadcast of the National Assembly session was interrupted during the discussion of this proposal.
The initiative for the constitutional amendments was put forth by former commander of the Artsakh Defense Army, Samvel Babayan. He intends to run in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for spring, but the current constitution does not permit him to do so.
