A Statue of Mher Mkrtchyan Erected in the Courtyard of a Restaurant Holding a Barbecue Bottle

According to “Armenian Times”, a statue of the actor and People’s Artist of the USSR, Mher Mkrtchyan, has appeared in the territory of the ‘Ararat View Garden’ restaurant in Yerevan. The beloved comedian of cinema and theater is depicted in the sculpture as a barbecue seller, which bears no relation to his profession and the great work he performed.

The sculpture is located in the courtyard directly in front of the restaurant. The distorted representation of Mher Mkrtchyan has become a cause of anger for many. It has particularly infuriated Mher Mkrtchyan’s nephew, director Mher Mkrtchyan.

The younger Mher Mkrtchyan shared an image of the sculpture on his Facebook page, expressing that the matter will certainly entail legal developments. He stated: “This issue is not only legal; despite the fact that such developments will indeed occur, the question is moral. It concerns the nation, culture, memory, the greats, and respect. Dear ‘Ararat View Garden’ establishment, is there truly no other way to attract customers? Dear municipality, can anyone place a statue wherever they wish? Dear diners at the establishment, does this whet your appetite? Do you drink to the health of the greats?”
