Whose Testimony Led to Charges Against Alik Sargsyan: "Zhoghovurd"

The former deputy head of the Criminal Intelligence Department of the Police of Armenia, Hovhannes Tamamyan, was the one whose testimony prompted the preliminary investigation body to charge specific individuals. This was reported by the newspaper "Zhoghovurd".

According to the newspaper, the Special Investigative Service (SIS) on September 25 charged former Police Chief Alik Sargsyan with abuse of official powers, forgery, and concealing a crime in relation to the March 1 case.

Based on Tamamyan's testimony, the preliminary investigation body has come up with specific charges against certain individuals, the paper writes. The former Chief of the Police, Haik Harutyunyan, Hovhannes Tamamyan, and several other high-ranking police officials are also mentioned in this criminal case.

Considering his cooperation with the SIS, Tamamyan has been charged with a lighter offense. In an interview with "Zhoghovurd," Tamamyan did not comment on these reports, saying, "It’s not appropriate for me to comment…" and then hung up the phone.

It’s noted that on September 25, former Police Chief Alik Sargsyan was charged with abuse of official power, forgery, and concealing a crime. According to the charges, following the events of March 1 and 2, 2008, in Yerevan, assistants to the President of Armenia, Gevorg Kostanyan and Gevorg Mehrabyan, demanded the creation and circulation of documents that justify the legality of police actions on March 1 and 2, dated retroactively.

After a meeting called on this matter, Police Chief Alik Sargsyan and several high-ranking officials of the Police of Armenia began to carry out the directives and orders of Gevorg Kostanyan and Gevorg Mehrabyan.

It’s also worth mentioning that on September 23, at 11:50 PM, the police received a report that the body of former Police Chief Haik Harutyunyan had been found in his private residence in Bjni, with a gunshot wound to the head.
