VIDEO: We Have a Deputy Who Flies More Than He Walks – Petrosyan
In the 2020 budget, financial allocations for the staff of the Prime Minister, the President, the National Assembly, and the justice bodies will increase compared to the previous year. This change was presented by the Minister of Finance during budget discussions in the National Assembly. Today's agenda includes discussions on the expenses and revenues of these institutions.
MPs have asked the head of the National Assembly staff, Tigran Galstyan, about the trends regarding the expenditures for deputies' business trips, to which he noted that these expenditures have increased. Meanwhile, Gevorg Petrosyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia faction, stated, "What interests me more is how purposeful these trips are; when the component of purposefulness declines, it becomes useless numerology. A mechanism needs to be developed so that deputies provide reports on the results of their trips. Now we have a deputy who flies more than he walks. The people are asking, what benefits does the person who travels so much bring to the country? The results of a deputy's activity should be visible."
MP Vladimir Vartanian from the 'My Step' faction responded, "The results of a deputy's work should be visible. There are deputies who do not go on business trips at all, but their work results are evident." He added that such a mechanism exists, but Gevorg Petrosyan replied that he had not seen anything like that. The head of the staff responded that his job is to calculate and allocate expenses, not to demand reports.
