VIDEO: The Anti-Corruption Committee Operates Outside Political Control - Head of ACC
The Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC) has the authority to interrogate any individual, including Hrayr Tovmasyan. This statement was made by ACC Head Sasun Khachatryan during a conversation with journalists.
In response to the inquiry regarding whether he should obtain permission from the Constitutional Court (CC) given Tovmasyan's immunity as CC President, Sasun Khachatryan answered negatively.
When asked about the ongoing processes surrounding Hrayr Tovmasyan, former National Assembly President Ara Babloyan, and former Deputy Head of the National Assembly Staff Arsen Babayan, the ACC Head stated, “The ACC operates outside political control and is governed solely by the law.”
Regarding why Arsen Babayan was deprived of communication, and why the decision was made to petition the court for his detention as a preventive measure, Khachatryan explained, “In each specific case, the investigator assesses which preventive measure can ensure the proper behavior of the accused. In this case, the investigator handling the case concluded that Arsen Babayan's proper behavior could only be ensured under detention conditions, and for that reason, restrictions were imposed on his interactions.”
According to the ACC Head, Hrayr Tovmasyan's resignation or retention has no connection to the criminal case initiated against Arsen Babayan.
