Shooting Started at 3 AM: Residents of Villages Fired Upon by Azerbaijani Forces Describe Events

Three community leaders spoke with Sputnik Armenia about the events that occurred in their region last night. The villages of Baghanis, Koti, and Voskepar in the Tavush Province saw unrest during the night.

Azerbaijani fire was directed towards positions adjacent to the villages, and in some cases, directly at the villages themselves. “They fired at the positions. There were no shots fired directly at our village, and therefore, we have not sustained any damage,” said Narek Sahakyan, the administrative head of Baghanis.

In the Koti village area, however, the gunfire was directed right at the village. “Around 3 AM, they started shooting. It lasted for about an hour, with interruptions,” said Felix Melikyan, the head of the Koti administration, adding that they currently do not have consolidated information about any damage and are verifying the details.

In Voskepar, the gunfire was also targeted at positions, but the issue is that the positions are very close to the village. “They fired for a long time with interruptions, but fortunately, we have no casualties or damages,” said Serob Makhsudyan, the head of Voskepar administration.

It is worth noting that last night and early this morning, the adversary fired at several villages and combat positions in Tavush using weapons of various calibers. According to the Armenian Ministry of Defense spokesperson Artsrun Hovhannisyan, the gunfire ceased only after a retaliatory strike.
