Increase in Funding for the President and National Assembly in the 2020 State Budget

The preliminary discussions on the draft law on the "2020 State Budget of the Republic of Armenia" are taking place in the permanent committees of the National Assembly. Finance Minister Atom Janjughazyan presented the program funding for various government agencies.

"The financial allocation for the Office of the President in the 2020 budget is 1 billion 576 million drams, which is an increase of 430 million drams compared to the 2019 program. For the National Assembly, the proposed budget includes 6 billion 96 million drams, which is 842 million drams more than this year's program indicators," he stated.

Atom Janjughazyan noted that the funds allocated for the staff of the Constitutional Court, set at 721 million drams, remain approximately at the same level as last year, having decreased by around 4 million drams. "For the Supreme Judicial Council, 12.6 billion drams is allocated, exceeding the 2019 figures by 193 million drams. The budget for the Prosecutor's Office is set at 5.4 billion drams, which is an increase of 86 million drams compared to the 2019 program indicators, while the budget for the Special Investigation Service stands at 735 million drams, down by 4.7 million drams from this year's figures," the minister reported.

Regarding the increase in salaries for law enforcement agencies, Atom Janjughazyan mentioned that salary discussions should encompass all sectors. He noted that a strategy for judicial reform is being discussed, which also considers all factors that will lead to increased efficiency, including salary increases. "The amounts of remuneration have been calculated based on the regulations in the draft budget," he said.
