VIDEO: Aquatic Birds Victims of Illegal Fishing

“I have been warning and raising the alarm for years to stop this. Everyone talks, but when it comes to action, sadly, I am still alone in this segment,” wrote user Tigran Matiosyan on his Facebook page, sharing photos.

The Environmental and Mining Inspection Body responded to the post, stating: “This morning, employees from the Environmental and Mining Inspection's Ararat regional division visited Armash village in the Ararat province based on a Facebook post by user Tigran Matiosyan. They discovered an abandoned fishing net in the drainage waters. The 3 small fish and 1 turtle hatchling found in the net have been returned to their natural environment. The fishing net has been confiscated for subsequent destruction. During their inspection in the area, the employees did not find any other fishing nets. The ongoing fight against environmental violations continues.”

It is also noteworthy that the fishing net had trapped an aquatic bird, which likely drowned.
