“On the night of October 16, at 3:40 a.m., police officers from the Arabkir Division of the Police Protection Service noticed two individuals on Abovyan Street. Upon seeing the police vehicle, they attempted to flee. Police officers pursued them and apprehended them at the intersection of Abovyan Street and Babayan Street. The apprehended suspects resisted arrest. During the struggle, one of them grabbed the service pistol of one of the officers, struck the officer in the head, and then fired at another police officer. The assailants fled the scene. As a result of the gunshot wound, 38-year-old Tigran Arakelyan, a police officer from the Arabkir Division, died.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident. Hours later, as a result of extensive and varied operational and investigative measures implemented by various divisions of the police and the Investigative Committee, the brothers born in 2001 and 2003 were discovered and taken into custody from their home in the village of Proshyan on suspicion of committing the crime.
During a search of the suspects' residence, the police found the officer's service pistol. Notably, it should be mentioned that the apprehended individuals had previously been involved in several criminal cases related to the theft of personal property.
Furthermore, it was revealed that just minutes before the incident, the brothers had broken a window of a beauty salon on Abovyan Street, entered the premises, and stolen electric hair cutting devices and money. Part of the stolen items has been discovered and confiscated in Abovyan Street. The brothers have been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing,” the police reported.
