Why Not: Mariam Pashinyan Aspires to Be Armenia's First Female Prime Minister (Video)
In Armenia, the IT sector is actively developing, with international global organizations opening engineering offices and representations in the country. The roots of Armenian startups can be found worldwide and across various sectors. In this context, "First News" spoke with Mariam Pashinyan, the market research and public relations coordinator of the "DigiTech" company.
She noted that Armenians are talented in many fields, such as winemaking and clothing production, and the IT sector is no exception. "Since the Soviet era, Armenia has been a center for software and technologies. It is true that the sector declined in the 1990s due to economic reasons, but since the establishment of the ‘Enterprise Incubator’ Foundation in 2002, the IT sector in Armenia has seen continuous growth," she stated.
Mariam Pashinyan did not rule out the possibility of entering politics in the future. "It is sad that Armenia has not had a female leader — either a prime minister or president — nor has it had a woman speaker of parliament. I believe women should become more active, especially now that the new authorities support the role of women in both domestic and foreign policy. I am confident that when women occupy higher positions, decisions will be made more carefully," she added.
