It's Time to Recognize the Armenian Genocide: A Statement from a US Congressman
A discussion took place in the US House of Representatives regarding the withdrawal of American troops from northern Syria. During this context, Congressman Brad Sherman spoke about the mistakes of American policy and the subsequent failure to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
According to him, although American diplomacy is based on honesty and honor, their administration has not recognized the Armenian Genocide since the 1940s while supporting their NATO ally, Turkey. The congressman expressed that this is a disgrace for the United States.
“It’s time to recognize the Armenian Genocide,” said the congressman.
It is noteworthy that the issue of recognizing the Armenian Genocide is a topic of debate among the American political elite and is often used as leverage against Turkey when it is necessary to steer Turkey in a direction favorable to the US.
Additionally, a Kurdish Armenian MP elected from Diyarbakir from Turkey's opposition pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has described Turkey's actions in Syria as an attempt at displacement and genocide.
