Ara Babloyan on the Election of Hrayr Tovmasyan
According to the newspaper "Zhoghovurd", it became known yesterday that a decision has been made at the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia to initiate a criminal case under the first part of Article 300 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (usurpation of power). In this case, charges are likely to be brought against the President of the Constitutional Court, Hrayr Tovmasyan, following a complaint by MP Arman Babajanyan, who reported that Tovmasyan violated Article 95 of the Constitution and engaged in activities incompatible with his parliamentary mandate.
On February 16, the President of the National Assembly, Ara Babloyan, nominated Hrayr Tovmasyan for the vacant position of the Constitutional Court (CC) member. Although on the same day Tovmasyan submitted a letter of resignation from the position of Chairman of the Permanent Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly, he did not resign from his parliamentary mandate. How could the National Assembly allow such an illegality? In response to this question from the newspaper "Zhoghovurd", former Speaker of the National Assembly Ara Babloyan briefly replied: "I have done everything within the law, so at this moment I am not to blame and cannot delve into your question."
