Advisers Suggest Trump Threaten Turkey with Recognition of Armenian Genocide

In a bid to steer Turkey into a desirable course and prevent the advance of the Turkish army in Syria, advisers to the U.S. president have suggested threatening Turkey with the recognition of the Armenian genocide. This was reported by the American news outlet Newsweek.

This is one of several options proposed by the advisers. Moreover, it is not about direct recognition but rather a threat that the U.S. could acknowledge the massacres of 1.5 million Armenians, as well as hundreds of thousands of Greeks and Assyrians, committed in the Ottoman Empire from 1915 to 1923 as genocide.

Currently, there is a 'ceasefire' in the tense relations between the two countries, which is a period for negotiations. This pause comes after the United States and Turkey agreed that the Turkish army would give the Kurdish forces 5 days to withdraw from northern Syria.
