Russian Armenians Can Visit Azerbaijan: Mamedyarov
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Mamedyarov has announced that citizens of the Russian Federation with Armenian surnames are allowed to visit Azerbaijan. He stated, 'They need to notify the Azerbaijani embassy in Moscow to avoid the 'emotional background' caused by the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.'
It is worth mentioning that earlier, a Russian citizen Kristina Gevorgyan had written on Facebook that she spent 13 hours at Baku International Airport. Gevorgyan stated that besides her, two other families were also unable to enter Baku due to one of their relatives having an Armenian surname.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry noted that what happened to Gevorgyan is an 'attempt to inflame a private case' and added that there are no issues in Azerbaijan-Russia relations.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, addressing the incident, declared that Baku's approach to prohibiting entry to a Russian citizen of Armenian descent is unacceptable.
