Political Persecution Against Thovmasyan, Says Davit Harutyunyan

The initiation of a criminal case against Constitutional Court President Hrayr Thovmasyan and others for alleged crimes related to the usurpation of power under Article 300, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia has no other explanation than political persecution.

This was stated by former Minister of Justice Davit Harutyunyan in an interview with NEWS.am.

According to him, there is no legal basis for the initiation of the criminal case. “Even with a strong desire, I think no reasonable lawyer could find anything here,” he said.

In response to Independent MP Arman Babajanyan’s justification that Hrayr Thovmasyan did not resign from his parliamentary mandate when he took on the role of Court President, Davit Harutyunyan commented, “The Constitution operates directly in this case, and I believe that the President of the National Assembly acted very correctly by prematurely terminating the powers of the deputy.”

Earlier, we reported that a criminal case was initiated based on a report submitted by independent MP Arman Babajanyan to the RA Prosecutor General, regarding the preparation of materials by the Special Investigation Service concerning the alleged crime of usurpation of power by Hrayr Thovmasyan and others.
