On October 16, a major fire broke out in the village of Dzoragyukh in the Lori region, causing the owner to suffer damages exceeding 7 million drams. The alarm about the fire was received by the regional rescue department at 17:51. The caller reported that a residential house was burning in the village.
Three fire brigades and an operational group from the regional rescue department, led by the head of the rescue department, Colonel Serob Gabrielyan, were dispatched to the scene. The water truck from the Veolia Water LLC's Lori branch was also called for assistance.
The rescue service informed journalists that the fire was contained by 19:56. The fire occurred in the second floor of a two-story building (240 sq. m) rented from the community at number 4, 2nd alley on 8th Street in Dzoragyukh, where about 3500 feed units were stored nearby.
The rescuers managed to evacuate 30 heads of small and large cattle and 30 tons of potatoes from the first floor of the burning building.
The firefighting efforts are still ongoing to this moment, with ventilation work being carried out. Law enforcement officials are also present at the scene.
In an interview with journalists, the mayor of Dzoragyukh, Arshak Ramazyan, stated that the damages sustained by the resident are enormous. Speaking about the possible causes of the fire, the mayor indicated that preliminary reports suggest that it ignited due to careless handling of matches by a 5-year-old child of the tenant.
In a conversation with us, Vahan Hovhannisyan, the owner who suffered significant damages from the fire, mentioned that he incurred losses between 7 to 10 million drams. According to the resident, this figure might increase. The area which was used as a storage facility was rented from the community.
“Now it is in terrible condition, I don’t even know what to say or how to think; all that I had has gone down the drain. I have loans to pay back to banks, and I still have a family to support... I don’t know what to say; I can barely speak,” Vahan Hovhannisyan said, adding that his family consists of 6 members, including minor children.
