Man Charged for Extortion Related to Sexual Recordings

The investigation into a case of extortion through abuse of trust has been completed in the Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts of the Investigative Committee of Armenia. A 30-year-old man is facing charges.

According to the evidence collected during the investigation, the accused, born in 1989, allegedly demanded money from a resident of Yerevan, threatening to publish damaging information, causing significant harm. Additionally, he attempted to fraudulently extort a considerable amount of money from a resident of Armavir under the false pretext of deleting sexual recordings from a website, but due to circumstances beyond his control, he did not complete the crime.

It was also revealed that the 30-year-old man had previously extorted money from citizens on various pretexts between 2016 and 2018, causing them substantial harm.

Based on a combination of sufficient evidence, the man has been charged under Article 182, part 1, Article 178, part 2, point 2 (2 episodes), Article 178, part 1, and Article 34-178, part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Pre-trial detention has been selected as a preventive measure against him.

The investigation has concluded, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
