Criminal Case Associated with Vigen Sargsyan Sent to the Prosecutor General's Office

The criminal case related to former Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan has been sent to the Prosecutor General's Office by the Special Investigative Service of Armenia, following a request from the supervising prosecutor.

This was reported to NEWS.am by the spokesperson for the SIS, Marina Ohanyan.

It is noteworthy that on September 25, the Investigative Committee announced that sufficient evidence had been gathered to involve former Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan as a defendant in connection with the abuse of official powers.

Specifically, the criminal case established that the authority to discuss the allocation of residential properties for servicemen in need of improved living conditions, as per the right to gratuitous use of properties under the Ministry of Defense's accounting, was reserved for the Central Housing Commission of the Ministry of Defense. However, the Minister of Defense decided on the allocation of 29 apartments from one of the buildings on G. Hasratyan Street in Yerevan, and this decision had not been discussed by the commission at all. Furthermore, as a result of the commission's discussions, a number of apartments in the mentioned building were allocated by the commission upon the Minister of Defense's instruction, in violation of the procedures established by the Government of Armenia, thus causing significant harm to the rights of servicemen in need of permanent housing within the Ministry of Defense system, as well as to their and the state's legal interests.
