Catholicos of All Armenians Expresses Concern Over Recent Developments in Syria
His Holiness Garegin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, has expressed deep concern regarding the recent developments taking place in Syria. This is reported by the information system of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.
“In recent hours, we have been receiving alarming news about the military incursion by Turkey in the northeast region of the Syrian Arab Republic. From the spiritual center of the Armenian people, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, we call the attention of the international community to Turkey’s actions against international order and law, expecting urgent and practical measures to prevent further bloodshed.
The threat of attacks by Turkey against minorities, including our Syrian-Armenian compatriots due to their national identity, evokes memories of the Armenian Genocide committed by the same state between 1915-1923 and must be met with the utmost condemnation by the international community.
Sharing the pain and suffering of the Azerbaijani people enduring the horrors of war, we raise our prayers to God for the swift restoration of peace in Syria and throughout the Near East. What has occurred has no justification. The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin will continue to extend its support to the people of Syria and our nation’s children,” said the Pontiff.
