Alexis Ohanian Jokingly Talks About His 'Used' Fake Accounts

“In general, I should have become a lawyer.” These are the words of Alexis Ohanian during a panel discussion at the WCIT conference held in Yerevan. However, the co-founder of Reddit shared that he realized one day that it was not for him.

Ohanian recounted that at that time he had nothing, including business skills, but had a $12,000 check which he invested in Reddit. According to him, it was an initiative that involved not-so-experienced but very ambitious individuals, and that marked the beginning of success.

Kim Kardashian, for her part, introduced her new lingerie collection. She stated that this type of product typically comes in two colors: nude and black. Kardashian noted that she and her relatives needed new colors, and so she created them in a variety of shades for people of all skin tones.

Founder of Giphy, Alex Chang, continued the discussion. He shared that he created his website to meet the needs of his relatives. Chang explained that his mother cannot speak English, but needs a way to express herself. Thus, he decided to create a collection website of GIFs, allowing users to communicate in the language of emotions by sending each other these animated images.

Chang mentioned that they are now the second largest network in terms of searches, after Google. According to the website's founder, while people search for information and news on Google, they search for emotions on their platform—a feature that none of the previous search engines included.

The director of Picsart also joined the discussion, noting that the tears of his daughter were the foundation for creating his brand. Hovhannes Avoyan shared that when his daughter posted a photo on one of the social networks, she was criticized. Avoyan decided to create a tool that allows creativity, enabling users to edit photos and share them within a community of like-minded, positive individuals.

According to the founder, the company is now a leader in the mobile photo editing sector, and their next goal is to reach 1 billion users.

During the WCIT conference, Kim Kardashian and Alexis Ohanian talked about the early stages of their businesses, and there Ohanian shared an interesting story about his 'reservoir' of fake accounts. Alexis Ohanian portrayed the early days of Reddit back in 2005.

“Everyone has usernames on Reddit. And if you have seen the posts from the first roughly four months there, even though it seems that a large number of people posted, it was all just me writing under different names,” Ohanian recalled with a smile. He then continued the joke, saying that now most of the users are real people, with very few fakes.
