150 More Employees to Work at Yerevan's Waste Management Community Enterprise

The Yerevan community waste management enterprise, established in April of this year, is set to add 206 more employees. A corresponding draft decision was approved at today's council meeting. As a result, the total number of employees at the mentioned enterprise will reach 853.

"At this stage, this is the number of employees through which proper waste collection can be ensured," said Yerevan Deputy Mayor Haik Sargsyan. Of the additional positions, 150 will be for janitors. Previously, the established staff list also included 150 such positions. At that time, the small number was justified by the fact that the city's cleanliness would be organized also through vacuum machines, making human labor less necessary.

Now, the additional proposal for janitors is justified by the fact that the process of acquiring vacuum machines is time-consuming, and in the meantime, it is necessary to address the cleanliness of the capital.

"Regarding the financial burden, we have repeatedly stated that the budget for our waste management enterprise will not exceed the limit set in the previous contract with ‘Sanitek’, which is 5 billion 170 million drams for this year. However, in the contract with ‘Sanitek’, this amount was indexed and recalculated at the end of each year. In our case, this will not be necessary, but the city hall will carry out the work with maximum effort and minimum cost,” he noted.

He also mentioned that according to their assessment, the budget to be spent for the waste management enterprise currently does not exceed 5 billion 170 million drams for one year.
