Armenia Has Become a Global Hub for Information Technology: Avinyan
The Vice Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Avinyan, considers October 7, 2019, to be a historic day for Armenia. He mentioned on his Facebook page that for centuries, Armenians and Armenia have been at the forefront of innovations, scientific achievements, and creative approaches.
“The fact that we are hosting the World Congress on Information Technology, or WCIT 2019, under the high patronage of the government in Yerevan—one of the most prestigious events in this field—signifies that our country is making a serious claim to occupy its rightful place among the technologically developed countries of the world. In fact, even before the start of the congress, Armenia has caught the attention of international media and has become a global hub for information technology,” Tigran Avinyan noted, as reported by Armenpress.
According to him, information and communication technologies have been declared a priority by the Armenian government, and in recent years, the sector has experienced an average annual growth of about 27-28 percent. The government is persistently working to create conditions necessary for the startup ecosystem and innovations.
“I can say that a modern and dynamic startup culture has developed in Armenia, which has led many to proclaim our country as the new Silicon Valley. The next three days are crucial not only on a local and regional level but also on a global scale, as the agenda of the congress addresses key issues concerning all of humanity. Thus, we will not remain aloof from the discussions of the most pressing global issues,” he stated.
He further emphasized that the congress has gathered over 2,500 global leaders, thinkers, innovators, politicians, researchers, as well as superstars from the arts and show business from more than 70 countries under one roof. According to Tigran Avinyan, the gathering of such a large number of creative, open-minded, and visionary individuals will provide a wonderful opportunity for in-depth discussions on critical global issues and, why not, for proposing new initiatives.
“Why is this important? We live in a world and a time characterized by very rapid and transformative changes, and often societies, states, and individuals do not keep pace with the technological leap that is taking place. Meanwhile, the alignment of technology with public and governmental institutions is fundamentally significant for the continued development of human civilization. We are hosting a conference of this inspiring and ambitious nature,” Avinyan added.
