December 7 is forever remembered as a day of mourning: Tsolakyan
The Minister of Emergency Situations, Felix Tsolakyan, responded to a question from Aurora news during today’s press conference regarding whether December 7 will also be commemorated as 'Disaster Resilience Day.' He stated that December 7 is forever remembered as a day of mourning.
'During the earthquake, we did not have a suitable structure that could operate, and this absence contributed to the increase in the number of casualties,' Tsolakyan said.
He noted that we can withstand about 60 percent of any disaster, but there is a 30 percent shortfall. According to him, the Ministry of Emergency Situations does not have the appropriate tools to act more effectively during natural disasters. 'We do not currently have the technical resources for at least mid-level disaster prevention, but work is underway to fill this gap.'
The minister mentioned that they have now received Japanese technology, which will be utilized in the near future. Additionally, there is new equipment expected with modern capabilities. The new technology is particularly designed for regional rescue operations, as there is a significant gap in this area.
