Boycott: Residents of Gyumri Demand Removal of Former Police Officer's Stall

Residents of Tigran Metz Street in Gyumri are preventing construction work from continuing on their street. They demand that the iron shop stall, which disrupts the appearance of the street and surrounding buildings, be removed by the contractor and the Gyumri municipality.

According to armtimes.com, the residents state that the stall appeared after the earthquake, was once a shop, but has been closed for a long time. They are calling for the area to be cleared and transformed into a playground for children living in the buildings. They promise to prevent the contractor from working until the issue is resolved.

Residents obstructing the contractor's work also noted that the owner of the problematic stall is a former police officer, which they believe is why it remains in place. The Gyumri municipality stated that the land for the stall belongs to the community. To demolish the structure, the municipality has filed a lawsuit, which was resolved in favor of the owner in the first instance. Currently, the municipality has appealed the court's decision and is awaiting a response.

It is worth mentioning that this is the same street that has continually caught the attention of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Recently, Suren Papikyan, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, visited the area and noted during his visit that temporary accommodations and stalls should not exist on newly constructed streets.
