Video: Baby Shoes for the Health Minister from Marina Khachatryan

Former member of Yerevan City Council and neurosurgeon Marina Khachatryan announced today, October 1, via a Facebook live stream that she is in front of the Ministry of Health and wishes to present baby shoes to the Minister of Health, Arsen Torosyan. Her intention is to draw attention to the recent increase in neonatal mortality cases.

“We are witnessing cases of neonatal and maternal mortality in maternity hospitals, and for some reason, there has been no serious response. The citizens are not informed about anything, and as always, the Ministry of Health continues its approach, while doctors are under pressure,” she stated.

According to Marina Khachatryan, she chose this method to alert the authorities regarding the issue. “These are the shoes of the newborns who were born but, for unknown reasons, their parents and the Armenian nation have lost them. This is a great sorrow. I have chosen to raise an alarm in this way. During the USSR period, all mortality cases were subject to discussion; why is that not happening today?”

She handed the baby shoes to a ministry employee who promised to deliver them to the minister.
