Sahakyan: Kocharian's Freedom is the Most Innocuous Thing That Can Happen to Us

Suren Sahakyan wrote on his Facebook page:
"Do you remember how the previous session of the National Assembly dissolved? The Prime Minister resigned from his powers, and as a result of a political agreement, the National Assembly did not elect a new Prime Minister twice and dissolved by law. Do you remember the uproar that arose about the old guards nominating and electing Robert Kocharian? There was panic, a big outcry, terrible chatter. I believe this was the result of a flawed perception of political processes, projecting old, foolish stereotypes onto today’s state life. I think the same thing is happening now in the case of R. K.’s trial. He should sit, that’s true, but people are so terrified of his freedom that they connect everything to that.
I want to say once again that we have no chance of returning to the old ways. It’s not going to happen. It’s possible that some weak, disorganized, spontaneous actions of the new government may enhance the old regime’s possibilities, but there are two points to consider. Firstly, those possibilities will not be opportunities for victory, and secondly, if the government and the ruling power are so shortsighted, then R. K.’s freedom and his 'political' activity is the most innocuous thing that can happen to us. There are plenty of other issues where the failures are much more significant."
