Red Cross Representatives Visit Araik Ghazaryan in Azerbaijan
In September, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross visited Armenian citizens located in Azerbaijan, including 19-year-old serviceman Araik Ghazaryan, who ended up in Azerbaijan on August 12, 2019.
This was reported to Haykakan Zhamanak by Zara Amatuni, the head of communication programs for the ICRC's Armenian office. No further details were provided by the ICRC.
This marks the second visit to serviceman Araik Ghazaryan.
It is recalled that Araik Ghazaryan left his combat position on August 12 and ended up in Azerbaijani territory. Azerbaijani media, citing their defense ministry, reported that the serviceman was allegedly detained near a combat position in Fizuli, claiming that his “desertion was due to inhumane treatment in the military unit.”
Later, Armenian Minister of Defense David Tonoyan labeled the information about the serviceman in the Azerbaijani press as propaganda, expressing his belief that the serviceman had become disoriented in the area.
