Argument Over Helping a Voter at Lakeap Community Polling Station
Voting at polling station number 19/2 in the Lakeap community of Gegharkunik province began quite actively, even leading to an argument over helping a voter. This was reported by Hetq.am.
The voter stated that he is capable of making his choice, while one of the trusted persons, who had not even registered, insisted that he could not assist him: “He is my neighbor; I don't know if he can vote or not.” The head of the commission, Tigran Gasparyan, demanded that no one guide the voter.
There are four candidates for the head of the community: Valter Gevorgyan (watchman of Lakeap secondary school), Arsen Hovsepyan, Arthur Shahbazyan, and Haik Simonyan (current community head).
The self-nominated candidate for deputy head of the Lakeap community, Nikolay Sahakyan, who later retracted his candidacy, also voted. In response to our question about why he withdrew from the elections, the deputy head replied, “There were many candidates, and I thought that I could still help my village without participating; I was born and raised here and know it very well.”
The Lakeap community has 878 registered voters.
