Defense Attorney Tigran Atanesyan: The Charges Against Vladimir Gasparyan Are Incorrect

The defense attorney of former police chief Vladimir Gasparyan, Tigran Atanesyan, has announced on his Facebook page that the legal assessment of Gasparyan's actions is incorrect. This statement comes in response to the prosecutor general's office addressing the defense's appeal.

Atanesyan wrote: "In response to our appeal to terminate the criminal prosecution against General-Police Colonel Vladimir Gasparyan, we received this letter today, which is not provided for by the current criminal procedural law. In any case, it is clear that the charges brought against my client are incorrect, and the prosecutor general's office shares the same opinion. I do not know what instructions have been given to the investigator, but I am confident that this criminal prosecution has no basis and is clearly unlawful."

It is worth recalling that on September 19, 2019, a decision was made to involve Vladimir Gasparyan as a defendant and he was charged under Article 375, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power resulting in grave consequences due to negligence). Currently, criminal cases involving Gasparyan are also being investigated by the NSS and the Special Investigation Service. Gasparyan holds the status of a defendant only in the case being examined by the Investigative Committee.
