No Need to Present Vehicle at Police Registration Center for Registration
From now on, it is not mandatory to present a vehicle at the police registration center for registration. Registration can now be completed simply by providing the necessary documents. This was announced today at a government session by Acting Chief of the Police of Armenia, Arman Sarkisyan, who noted that the purpose of this decision is to alleviate the huge lines that have formed at the police registration and examination centers.
“Our specialists are also working on creating the possibility for electronic registrations, so that citizens who can perform actions in that way will not even have to present documents at the registration and examination division,” Sarkisyan stated.
The requirement to present documents on compulsory insurance and property registration has also been removed from the list of necessary documents, which are currently still required.
This decision also simplifies the registration requirements for vehicles imported by companies for commercial activities in Armenia. Instead, henceforth, the type of engine of the vehicle will be indicated on the vehicle’s technical passport. “The technical passport will indicate whether it is diesel, electric, gas, or gasoline,” Sarkisyan mentioned, adding that this is being done to prepare the ground for providing tax benefits to electric vehicles in the near future.
Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan expressed hope that after the adoption of this decision, the “hellish queues” at registration centers will disappear. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan asked the acting chief of police why, in 21st century Armenia, they have not yet abandoned technical passports and why these are not unified with ownership certificates. Arman Sarkisyan did not rule out that this option may be considered in the future.
